Dancing for Well-Being

We run sessions for older people with health and mobility problems. The first hour is full of led dances to music that can be done standing or sitting, and the final 30 minutes are spent nattering over tea, coffee and biscuits. Our sessions are there to support our physical and mental wellbeing, and the emphasis is always on fun!

We currently run 7 sessions throughout the week, in various locations across the district of Harrogate.

Dance for Parkinson’s

This class is especially designed for people with Parkinson’s and each session involves live music and dance run by experienced professionals. Our facilitators create an energetic and dynamic atmosphere in which to find joy, beauty and expression through movement.

Carers and friends are also welcome to attend the class and no past experience is needed. Please get in touch with us for any more information.

Move Dance Feel

Move Dance Feel CIC activities include regular dance sessions as well as weekend courses. They also offer short creative projects for artistic development. These activities may sometimes be delivered in partnership with cancer care organisations, charities, community establishments or arts institutions, and at other times independently. The company also conducts research and disseminates findings, highlighting the benefits of dance in this context, and provides training opportunities.

Their activities are for women with any type of cancer, and at any stage (pre, during or post treatment). They also welcome women who are supporting someone with cancer, e.g. a relative, friend, or cancer care professional, and women who are mourning the loss of someone to cancer. They provide creative, collaborative and joyful dance activity specifically designed to enhance participant wellbeing and offer holistic support.

Move Dance Feel is also founder of an international ‘Dance in Cancer Care Network’, and delivers interdisciplinary training, bringing together those working in both the arts and the health sectors.

Dance to health

Dance to Health uses dance to help people improve or maintain their strength and balance and so help reduce falls. Independently evaluated by Sheffield Hallam University it has been shown to reduce falls by 58%. Additionally the same evaluation reported that 96% of participants had improved their mental health, 87% made new friends and 98% said they would recommend the programme to other people who have fallen or are at risk of falling.

As well as reporting the ongoing benefit of improved strength and balance that enables them to continue their everyday activities, our participants are also always keen to talk about the joy and fun that they experience in the sessions and the friendships they have made.

Our nationwide falls programme is expanding all the time and includes online sessions available regardless of geographical location.

Our programmes are tailored to meet the abilities and interest of the participants. In some classes participants may remain seated throughout while in others even the most fit and active will work up a sweat!

Our classes generally run for two hours including 90 minutes exercise and 30 minutes social time for tea, coffee and biscuits.
