Music Singing

6-week courses introduce people to the main concepts of singing for lung health and the reasons we do what we do in the sessions, led by Liv McLennan. They cover the importance of relaxation and posture, specific breathing and singing exercises, and specially chosen repertoire to support breath management. The courses are accompanied by videos and written notes. We maintain and practise the learning afterwards in our weekly singing sessions, building and developing our breath management skills.

What is it?

The 6-week courses introduce people to the main concepts of singing for lung health and the reasons we do what we do in the sessions. They cover the importance of relaxation and posture, specific breathing and singing exercises, and specially chosen repertoire to support breath management. The courses are accompanied by videos and written notes.

We maintain and practise the learning afterwards in our weekly singing sessions, building and developing our breath management skills.

But what if I can’t sing?

Firstly, do not worry! Although we think everyone can sing, we know that not everyone believes this of themselves. You do not need to have sung before or be able to read music. Everything we do is inclusive and accommodates all levels of experience.

Secondly, do remember that we are learning to manage our breath better though singing, not learning how to sing.

Thirdly, you’ll actually be on mute most of the time we’re singing, so no one will hear you anyway!

“The confidence to open my mouth and hear the sound that came from it without fear of criticism. Only encouragement. In it I learnt how to breathe more fully because when you have an asthma attack you can only breathe shallowly. So you have to relearn how to.”
